Berit Dybing had some free time earlier this month after wrapping up her first headline tour. What better way to celebrate than by supporting the hometown team in the midst of a playoff push? So, she bought a ticket to the April 3 game between the Wild and Vegas Golden Knights at the Xcel Energy Center, and was sitting in the crowd when she heard a familiar voice over the loud speakers. Her own. With the game in the middle of a stoppage, her song “Boys Who Kiss You In Their Car” blared for nearly 18,000 people to hear. The 25-year-old Bemidji native, who goes by the stage name Ber, captured the moment and posted it on TikTok.It was the first time she had ever heard a song of hers in the wild. Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:14:58 GMT

BOULDER — CU legends from Kordell Stewart to Laviska Shenault were on the field for the start of a historic, sold-out spring game Saturday at Folsom Field. But the honor of actually kicking off said spring “game” went to another Buffs living legend: 98-year-old CU super fan Peggy Coppom. As she waved a trademark gold pom-pom with her left hand and new CU coach Deion Sanders held her right hand, Coppom walked briskly to the orange tee, swung her right leg and let fly — to the delight of the more 46,000 in attendance who roared with approval. It was more of a ceremonial first kick, in the style of a ceremonial first pitch, than a kickoff proper. But it set the tone for the Buffs’ scrimmage, which was televised live on ESPN. Especially given the news that another Buffs tradition, the running of mascot Ralphie, would not be happening because of the snow overnight and early Saturday morning in Boulder that made the surface at Folsom too slippery for Ralphie to run.C...

Former Mets J.D. Davis, Michael Conforto wonder what could have been in New York

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:14:58 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — By last year’s trade deadline, the excitement that Michael Conforto and J.D. Davis felt during their ascendent 2019 felt like eons ago. Once part of a promising young core in New York, Conforto’s shoulder rehab had kept him off the field all season, and Davis’ patience was wearing thin as he struggled to see the field consistently despite a clean bill of health.“Football players and basketball players, they can go in and just say, I want to get traded,” Davis said. “As a baseball player, you can’t. You’re more under the organization’s thumb and you just have to do what you’ve got to do. … I was very outspoken in saying I just need more reps.”Davis had voiced his displeasure. He’d heard murmurs leading up to deadline day. So when his phone rang in the visitor’s clubhouse at Nationals Park last August, Davis wasn’t surprised to hear the voice of Mets general manager Billy Eppler on the other end. Where h...
